Shipping and Receiving Clerk
The shipping and receiving clerk performs the duties assigned below under the direction of the store’s Parts Department Manager. It is the responsibility of the employee to have knowledge of and follow all company rules set in the company handbook.
Duties:
- Verify and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Prepare items for shipment and determine the method of shipment.
- Compare identifying information and counts, weights or measures on incoming or outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders or other records.
- Affix shipping labels on packed cartons or stencil identifying shipping information on cartons.
- Assemble wooden or cardboard containers or select preassembled containers.
- Insert items into containers, using spacers, fillers and protective padding.
- Nail covers on wooden crates and bind containers with metal tape, using strapping machine.
- Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.
- Deliver items to departments.
- Examine outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.
- Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies.
- May operate a fork lift or use a hand truck to move or hoist shipments from the shipping and receiving area to the storage or work area.
- May direct others in preparing outgoing and receiving incoming shipments.
- All of these duties are to be done daily and other duties as assigned
